OBA walk raises funds for African classrooms
This year marks the 12th year of the local Operation Bootstrap Africa (OBA) walk.
This year marks the 12th year of the local Operation Bootstrap Africa (OBA) walk. It will take place Saturday, October 9 at 11 a.m. The walk will begin and end at First Lutheran Church, 822 Douglas Street in Alexandria. Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the walk.
The purpose of the OBA walk is to raise money for building classrooms in Tanzania, Africa. OBA has built more than 3,500 classrooms. This year, the goal is to raise money for building a classroom for special needs children in Ilboru School in Arusha, Tanzania.
This year’s walk is in memory of Milo Widmark, who passed away in May. Widmark and his wife, Junnell, were supporters of OBA and other mission projects.
Pledge forms can be picked up at participating churches. Pledge money should be turned in at the beginning of the walk. Walkers should arrive at First Lutheran no later than 10:45 a.m. to register before walking.
