Card volleyball: Alexandria remains perfect in CLC play
The Cardinals swept St. Cloud Apollo for a 3-0 record in the league
A win is a win, right?
“This was a two-point win for us and a very important one in the conference,” said Alexandria volleyball coach Becky Schlichting of her team’s 25-23, 25-22, 29-27 win over St. Cloud Apollo Tuesday night. “Once again, the girls battled from behind on the opponent’s game point to take the game and the match.”
The Cardinals, who were able to keep their Central Lakes Conference record unblemished with the win over the Eagles, now stand at 3-0 in league play and 4-4 overall.
“Although the girls continue to put themselves in a position where they need to battle back from behind to win, they have so far been able to stay focused and play hard when the game is really on the line,” said the Card coach. “The girls extended their conference win streak with a 3-0 sweep.”
Junior Laurel Thompson led the team in kills with nine, digs with 13 and aces with six. She also set up her teammates with nine assists.
Allie Noetzelman, sophomore setter, provided 13 assists, while Kaitlin Becker and Sam Trumm contributed eight and seven kills respectively.
“Sam also had six blocks for the evening as she continues to dominate the net offensively and defensively,” said Schlichting.
Trumm, along with Shanee Herd, both had 10 digs apiece.
The Eagles had 31 set assists from Amelia Walz and 18 digs from Carrie Cremers.
