Swimming and diving: Eagles outduel Cardinals in pool

Alexandria senior Sarah Sater completed one of her dives in the Cardinals’ meet against St. Cloud Apollo last Thursday night. Sater finished third in the event with a total of 183.20 points.

The Alexandria swimming and diving team dropped its third straight meet to start the season last Thursday night as St. Cloud Apollo came to town and handed the Cardinals a 116-70 loss.

Alexandria managed just two wins in the 12 events. Rosey Erickson captured the 50-freestyle in a season best 26.04 seconds. The Cardinals then got a win in the 400 freestyle relay from Erickson, Rachel Peterson, Madalyn Winger and Dana Reis in 4:10.69.

Alexandria had 14 season best performances at the meet. Kelsey Halbur had the biggest improvement of more than five seconds on her 200 freestyle time (2:27.26). Erickson had two in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly (1:08.33), while Megan Bristow (200 IM, 2:36.85; 100 breaststroke, 1:20.21) and Beth Burnham (50 freestyle, 28.10; 100 freestyle, 1:04.28) had two, as well.

The Cardinals will try for their first win of the season tomorrow, Thursday, when they welcome Rocori to Discovery Middle School for another Central Lakes Conference battle.
