Classes are being offered locally that will discuss the types and calibers of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Types of ammunition, including dummy, blank, target, ball, defensive and specialty will also be covered.
During class, three videos of about one hour each will be shown. Topics range from handgun safety, home defense and marksmanship to defensive tactics and practice. There will also be an actual case history, showing the aftermath of an incident.
All classes offered for the Minnesota carry permit include a review of the law. Each class will have a maximum of four people.
A 223-page book on personal protection is also included, along with other information sheets to take home and review.
The class for a new permit – for those who have some handgun experience – runs about five hours and requires 40 rounds of ammunition to qualify. Cost for this class is $95. The class for permit renewal is also about five hours and costs $75.
Also offered is a class with greater depth, which lasts about eight hours. In this class, participants will shoot six different handguns including a .22, .38, 380 and 9MM, to decide which handgun may be best for them. All handguns and ammunition for this class are included for the $150 registration fee.
The instructor for these classes has more than 50 years teaching experience with the National Rifle Association, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army and Air Force.
