Five suspects, all from the Alexandria area, face felony charges of first-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
Authorities believe that one of the suspects has connections with an Alexandria gang known as OVR.
Here’s what happened, according to authorities:
On August 20, an agent with the West Central Minnesota Narcotics Task Force purchased a stolen item from Casey Harold Lambert, 18, of Carlos at 1611 6th Avenue East, Olson’s Mobile Home Park in Alexandria.
The item was taken during a burglary at 1308½ Hawthorne Street in Alexandria, according to the task force. Authorities said that Lambert and two other suspects – Gunner Michael Thompson, 18, of Alexandria and a juvenile – entered the home while the occupant was sleeping and took a number of items, including the keys to a vehicle.
The three suspects loaded the items into the vehicle, which they also allegedly stole. The vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, is still missing. It’s tan in color and has the Minnesota license plate, 599 AUZ.
On August 21, the task force, with assistance from the Alexandria Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at the mobile home park and arrested Lambert, Thompson, the juvenile and two other suspects, Tyler James Nelson, 20, of Alexandria and Jeffery Lyle Robert Mercer, 22, of Alexandria.
Several items stolen in the Hawthorne Street burglary were recovered, along with stolen items from other burglaries in Alexandria and Douglas County, according to the task force.
Stolen property was also recovered in Otter Tail County and charges are pending on those who were in possession of the items, authorities said.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
Lambert and Thompson were each charged with first-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. All are felony level charges except for the contributing charge.
Bail was set at $250,000 bond ($25,000 cash) for Lambert and $100,000 bond ($10,000 cash) for Thompson.
Nelson and Mercer were charged with possession of stolen property, a felony. Bail for Mercer was set at $5,000 bond ($500 cash). Nelson was released.
The juvenile, whose name was withheld, was charged with first-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property, all felonies. The juvenile was remanded to custody at the Moorhead Juvenile Detention Center.
Anyone with information on the location of the stolen Grand Prix or other stolen property is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (320) 762-8151 or the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631.
The task force serves the counties of Douglas, Becker, Clay, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Wadena and Wilkin.
