AARP driving classes set

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Defensive Driving classes are held year-round at the Alexandria Senior Center.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Defensive Driving classes are held year-round at the Alexandria Senior Center.

The initial eight-hour first-time course is given in two four-hour sessions. Thereafter, the four-hour refresher courses are given and need to be taken every three years to continue to qualify for the 10 percent discount on vehicle insurance.

Following is the schedule for September through December. All classes are held at the Alexandria Senior Center.

Eight-hour first time courses

• Thursdays, September 9 and 16 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; November 11 and 18, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

• Monday and Tuesday, October 11 and 12, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

• Monday and Thursday, December 6 and 9, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Four-hour refresher courses

• Tuesdays – September 14 and 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; October 5 and 19, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; November 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; December 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Saturdays – September 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; October 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; November 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Thursdays – September 23, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; October 28, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; November 4, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; December 2, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
