Arc West Central helps those with disabilities attain their own home

Arc West Central is contracting with The Arc of Minnesota to provide housing access services for a second year.

Arc Minnesota has received an extension on a grant from the Department of Human Services to help people move into homes of their own.

Arc West Central and the other Arc chapters across the state have housing advocates available to help people with the process of attaining their goal of having a home of their own.

There is no cost to the person for this service. To be eligible for this program you have to be 18 years or older, have a disability, and be receiving or eligible to receive a MA home care or waivered service.

People who receive Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) or Semi-Independent Living Services (SILS) are also eligible.

Arc advocates are available to help with seeking housing, completing rental applications and leases, meeting with property managers, developing budgets, and finding affordable furnishings.

The advocates can also help with or find start-up funds such as rental deposits. Once the person has moved into their home, Arc will help with ongoing support.

The emphasis of this service is to move people from congregate or group settings who want to move to a home of their own. More than 85 people have moved across the state, assisted by Arc chapters, into a home of their own.

Arc West Central serves the seven counties of Clay, Becker, Wilkin, Norman, Grant, Douglas and Otter Tail.
