Irene “Evie” Evelyn (Buhaug) Nelson, 90, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Irene “Evie” Evelyn (Buhaug) Nelson, 90, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Evie was born June 28, 1920 in Hitterdal to Jorgen and Julia (Moan) Buhaug. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal. She graduated from Hitterdal High School.

Evie was united in marriage to Earl Nelson on November 8, 1941 in Berkley, Michigan. The couple was blessed with two children, Ken and Cheryl. In 1943 the family moved to Moorhead, where they lived for 53 years.

Evie worked at Concordia College in food service, where she enjoyed serving malts to the students. Evie was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and being a member of Ladies Aid. In April 2006, Evie moved to Arabella Manor in Alexandria and joined First Lutheran Church.

Evie enjoyed cooking, reading and singing, and was a member of the Moorhead Mother Singers group. Most important to Evie were her faith, family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Ken (Marillyn) Nelson of Brandon; daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Lund of Brandon; grandchildren, Shelley (Nelson) and Ryan Burgau of Alexandria, Shanna (Nelson) and Chris Domine of Alexandria, Nicole (Lund) and Sheldon Scheu of Shakopee, Michelle (Lund) and Chris Borum of Elk River, and David and Sarah Lund of Rogers; great-grandchildren, Brenna (Burgau) and Troy Nelson, Chessa Burgau, Brady Burgau, Jordan Domine, Jada Domine, Jenna Domine, Allison Scheu, Ashley Scheu, Tristan Borum and Alissa Borum; sisters-in-law, Gladys (George) Buhaug of Ulen and Gloria (Russell) Buhaug of Lake Park.

Evie was preceded in death by her parents, Jorgen and Julia; husband, Earl; brothers, Norman, George, Russell and Erling; sisters, Anna, Olga, Alice, Beatrice, Nora, Clara and Selma.

A funeral service was held Thursday, August 19 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Music was provided by soloist Annetta Knowles and organist Virginia Hegre. Interment was held at Moorhead Memorial Gardens in Moorhead with the Rev. Nancy Monke officiating. Casket bearers were Chris Borum, Brady Burgau, Ryan Burgau, Chris Domine, Jordan Domine, David Lund, Troy Nelson and Sheldon Scheu.
