The Alexandria chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is looking forward to another exciting school year by offering activities at Discovery Middle School, Jefferson High School and at the YMCA.
Since 1954, the FCA has held close to its mission statement: “To present to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.”
All student athletes in grades 7-12 are invited to attend these non-denominational events where there will always be a fun activity, food and Biblical message from a local teacher, coach or peer.
The new location of the FCA office is inside the YMCA at 110 Karl Drive. The FCA is excited to partner with the YMCA as the foundation for both programs is built on the Christian faith.
One way the FCA is assisting is by making sure the building is covered with prayer and volunteers 365 days a year. The reasons for volunteering vary, but all on the team believe in the importance of keeping the “C” at the core of what goes on at the YMCA.
The “C” in both acronyms stands for Christ.
The FCA mission and vision closely aligns with the YMCA’s. It’s all about connections to people, being a good example and sharing talents, all for the glory of Christ Jesus.
If you would like more information about the Alexandria FCA or are interested in volunteering, contact Area FCA Director Tim Urness at (320) 834-4322 (4FCA) or e-mail him at turness@fca.org.
Upcoming FCA events:
• Kickoff picnic: Come listen to area athletes talk about their experiences at FCA Camp this summer. The potluck picnic will be held at Noonan Park on Sunday, August 22 starting at 6 p.m.
• Alpha Course: Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…questions like – Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?
Alpha is especially for you if you’re interested in exploring Christianity for the first time, are a new Christian, or want to brush up on the basics. Each evening includes dinner, a talk, dessert and small group time to discuss questions or issues you have.
Dates are Wednesdays, September 8 through December 1 (no class November 24), from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.
There is no cost for the course; small donations are accepted to cover the cost of the meals.
Classes are held at the Alexandria YMCA. Register online at www.alexandriaymca.com. For more information, call Sue at (320) 759-1800 or visit the website www.alphausa.org.
