The Alexandria Horseshoe League sent 10 pitchers to the World Horseshoe Championships
The Alexandria Horseshoe League sent 10 pitchers to the World Horseshoe tournament recently as Brian Hoppe, Jerry Zastrow, Phil Swenson, Kevin Richmond, Byron Edwards, Gary Boots, Tim Bayerl, Al Nicholson, Alan Larson and Janet Larson all traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Four of those pitchers earned high honors as Gary Boots, Tim Bayerl, Janet Larson and Byron Edwards all finished in the top six.
Boots, who competed in the men’s E3 class, finished first with an average of 43.17 percent in ringers. Larson, competing in the women’s C class, was fourth with an average of 53.67 percent. Edwards, who pitched in the elder’s F2 class, averaged 40.33 percent to finish fifth and Bayerl competed in the E3 clas, finishing sixth with an average of 33.00 percent.
The tournament competition took place over a two-week period with each pitcher pitching 15 games - five games per day - for three consecutive day.
