Area students perform in All-State Band

Nick Hansberry (tuba) and Rachel Astrup (alto sax) from Jefferson High School in Alexandria recently performed in the 2010-2011 Minnesota Music Educator’s All-State Symphonic Band.  

Both were selected to the group after a live audition in March.

Students in the all-state groups attended a week-long camp at Concordia College in Moorhead, which culminated with a concert on Saturday, August 7. 

At camp, students were led in master classes by section coaches and were directed by Dr. Mark Heidel, director of bands at the University of Iowa. 

Students also auditioned for chair placement in their respective sections.  Hansberry and Astrup both received first chair in their sections.
