Construction is once again in full swing on County Road 42 north of Alexandria.
Work began on Monday and is expected to continue into October.
This year’s County Road 42 project stretches from Blakes by the Lakes to the Carlos/L’Homme Dieu Bridge.
Portions of County Road 42 are closed, although there is access to local residences during the construction process.
Dave Robley, Douglas County Public Works director, noted that there is a detour route in place.
If motorists are headed north on County Road 42, they will need to go around the east side of Lake L’Homme Dieu by taking South Lake L’Homme Dieu Drive to Highway 29 and then take County Road 85 to County Road 120, which eventually hooks back up to County Road 42.
Much of the work being completed on County Road 42 is a continuation of work from last year – the road will be widened, a sidewalk put in and water main completed.
The city water main will be installed from Blakes by the Lakes up to Bay Lane, said Robley. The work on the water main is expected to begin early next week.
Rotary Beach along with the public boat access are now closed and will remain closed during the construction process.
Robley noted that the county has an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to reshape the public boat access, as well as paving the access. As with most construction projects, the weather will play a factor in how fast the work can be done, said Robley.
If people have questions about the project, they are encouraged to call Douglas County Public Works at (320) 762-2999.
