The streak was finally broken at Monday night’s charity softball game as the Douglas County Law Enforcement team locked up a 13-7 win against the Alexandria Fire Department.

Ron Boyden, one of the event organizers and a deputy for the sheriff’s office, said that before the game, all the players gathered around third base and had a moment of silence in honor of Pat Callaghan, an Alexandria police officer who died earlier this year. He thinks it was maybe “divine intervention” that the law enforcement team got its win this year.

Regardless of the score, however, Boyden said the real winners are Alexandria Area Special Olympics and The Windmill Project, the two charities that benefit from the proceeds of the game. More than $2,000 will be divided between the two charities.
