Resorters East: Miltona emerges from tourney as champ

The Miltona Tigers entered the Resorters’ East playoffs as the No. 3 seed but leave it as champions after a 13-1 win over second-seeded Clarissa on Saturday.

It marked the second time this postseason that the Tigers have handed the Flyers a loss. They did so by pounding out 14 hits and getting another strong pitching performance from Chris Koep.

The whole team got in on the act on offense. Ryan Emter set the pace with four hits out of the leadoff spot. Derick Swenson had two hits and three runs. Cody Curry had three hits, including a bases-clearing triple in the sixth that broke open a three-run game. Andrew Radjl and Jason Arvidson combined for four hits and four runs scored, while Jake Leuschke ended the game in eight innings with a three run shot to left field.

Koep took that offense and ran with it. He allowed just one hit and struck out nine in the complete-game victory.

The win sends Miltona to the Region 14C tournament as the No. 1 seed from the East. The Tigers’ first game is this Saturday in Sebeka against the Nimrod Gnats. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. Miltona will then play a second game later that evening at 5 p.m. in Nimrod or Verndale, depending on Saturday’s results.
