'Stuff the Bus' with donated school supplies

Back to school can be fun for children who are able to start the school year with necessary school supplies.

Back to school can be fun for children who are able to start the school year with necessary school supplies. For families who can’t afford the required supplies, this time of year can be stressful.

Thanks to the United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties, the Alexandria Jaycees and the Pope County Family Collaborative, more than 500 students will receive school supplies through the efforts of “Stuff the Bus.”

Stuff the Bus is a communitywide effort to collect school supplies for children throughout Douglas and Pope counties. Anyone can help by purchasing supplies and bringing them to participating businesses in Douglas and Pope counties.

Children needing backpacks can register by calling United Way at (320) 763-4840. Distribution of backpacks will be held in conjunction with Project Community Connect at Lake Community Church in Alexandria on Thursday, August 26.

In Pope County, call Pope County Human Services at (320) 634-5750 to register and they will notify you of the pick-up date.

For information, call United Way at (320) 763-4840.
