Two people were injured in a crash near Brandon Tuesday night.

The accident happened on County Road 7 at the Interstate 94 interchange with Brandon at about 6:30 p.m. and involved a semitrailer driven by Peter Joseph Verdon, 56, of Lake Lillian and a vehicle driven by Debra Kay Evavold, 46, of Evansville.

Evavold was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated. Both drivers were taken to the Douglas County Hospital. They were treated and released.

A preliminary investigation shows that the semitrailer was traveling west on I-94, exited at the Brandon interchange and parked on the shoulder, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The semi then began to approach the intersection with County Road 7 and intended on proceeding back on to the westbound I-94.

The semi collided with the side of Evavold’s vehicle, which was traveling south on County Road 7.

The sheriff’s office, North Ambulance, Brandon Fire Department, Brandon First Responders and the Garfield Fire Department responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Division.
