Resorters baseball: Miltona outduels Clarissa in playoffs
A match-up of the second and third seeds on the East side of the Resorters playoffs went to third-seeded Miltona last Friday night.
The Tigers pounded out 17 hits to drop Clarissa to the losers’ bracket in a 14-8 game. Ryan Emter had four of those hits, while Kevin Engebretson, Tom Steidl and Justin Walsh had three hits apiece.
The Tigers turned things around in a hurry after falling behind 3-0 after the first inning. They answered with four in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-4 lead. Jake Leuschke then sent a towering shot over the center field fence in the fourth to make it a three-run game.
Miltona kept adding to its lead in the later innings. The Tigers put together two more big innings, scoring four in the sixth and three more in the eighth to secure the win.
Chris Koep made another strong start to pick up the win. He went seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out 12. Andrew Radjl worked the final two innings in relief.
Every Miltona starter had at least one hit in the contest. Zac Beireis added two, while Cody Curry, Radjl and Mitch Kluver each added one, as well.
The Tigers will face top-seeded Carlos tomorrow, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. in Carlos. The Cougars advanced by beating Urbank 8-3 last weekend. Clarissa survived to play another day after the loss against Miltona. The Flyers eliminated Long Prairie on Sunday with a 13-3 win.
Clarissa will host Urbank in an elimination game tonight at 8 p.m. on the Flyers’ home field. The winner of that game will face the loser of the Miltona versus Carlos game on Sunday. The site and time of that game was yet to be determined when this issue of the Echo Press went to press.
