Four-year-old pulled Monday from Grand Forks, N.D., hotel pool dies

A 4-year-old boy who was pulled unresponsive from a Grand Forks, N.D., hotel pool on Saturday died Monday night at a Fargo hospital.

FARGO, N.D. – A 4-year-old boy who was pulled unresponsive from a Grand Forks, N.D., hotel pool on Saturday died Monday night at a hospital here.

Tayton Fitterer, 4, of Fargo, his mother and siblings were visiting Grand Forks and stayed at the Budget Inn Express, Grand Forks police said. Fitterer had been in the hotel’s pool with two siblings and they were being watched by an adult relative, police said. At some point, the adult saw that Fitterer was floating in the pool and was unresponsive when he was pulled out. Relatives started CPR and called 911. Emergency personnel responded and continued life-saving efforts, officials said. Fitterer was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks and then to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Officials said Fitterer died Monday night at the hospital formerly known as MeritCare. The body will be transferred to Grand Forks for an autopsy, officials said, and the incident remains under investigation.
