Fire burns house near Brandon

A fire destroyed an unoccupied house near Brandon Monday afternoon.

A fire destroyed an unoccupied house near Brandon Monday afternoon.

At 1:37 p.m., the Douglas County dispatch center received a call of a house fire at 14342 Skrove Road NW near Brandon.

Passersby had noticed the house on fire and contacted law enforcement, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was at the property at the time of the fire, according to authorities. The house, which is owned by Tom Hertz of Nevada, Iowa, was vacant and for sale.

The Brandon Fire Department was the first fire department called to the scene. Shortly after, mutual aid was called for the Garfield Fire Department and then additionally from the Kensington Fire Department and the Alexandria Fire Department.

The house was a complete loss, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with North Ambulance, were also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The state fire marshal was expected to be at the scene this week to investigate. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will also be investigating the fire.
