Art in the Park is next weekend

The annual Art in the Park, now in its 35th year, will be held at Alexandria City Park next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25.

The annual Art in the Park, now in its 35th year, will be held at Alexandria City Park next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25.

Art in the Park has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1976. The fine arts and crafts show, promoted as “Central Minnesota’s finest outdoor craft festival,” has grown from about 15 vendors to about 180.

Sponsored by West Central Sanitation and the Echo Press, the Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) event draws crowds and exhibitors from throughout the state of Minnesota as well as from several other states.

Art in the Park also includes a variety of ethnic foods and entertainment.

The event was originally held at Legion Park in Alexandria, and its purpose was to offer the community a chance to see and purchase the fine art of local artists.

The show still lives up to its original high standard of fine art and high-quality crafts.

The event is now held at Alexandria City Park, nestled along the tree-shaded shores of Lake Agnes and Lake Henry, just off Highway 29 North.

Proceeds from Art in the Park are used to maintain and improve the Alexandria Area Arts Association Theatre.

Watch for more detailed information in next Friday’s, July 23, issue of the Echo Press in the Entertainment section.
