The Phelps Mill Festival will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Saturday, July 10, through 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 11. Phelps mill is located 12 miles northwest of Battle Lake.
The festival brings together artists and artisans who display a high quality of work presented in a balanced variety of mediums. Adding to the intrigue of the peaceful settings of the Otter Tail County Park is the participation of guest performers appearing on stage and around the grounds. American and ethnic foods, served by nonprofit groups from the area, complement the festive atmosphere.
There will be a pancake breakfast starting on Saturday at 8 a.m. Following the breakfast is the Boy Scout Troop 305 Color Guard. 11:50 a.m. is when Teresa Brause, Festival Manager, will make the introductions, after which the Otter Tail County Commissioner will be giving the welcome.
Music starts at noon with the Boundary Water Boys, a group compiled of a number of award winning artists. When this bluesy group is finished, the Heart O’ Lakes Harmony Barbershop Chorus will begin at 1:15 p.m. This group of 20 men from Fergus Falls sings four-part harmony in the barbershop style. After this group finishes, the Boundary Water Boys will start again at 2:45 p.m., with the Heart O’ Lakes Harmony Barbershop Chorus singing again at 4 p.m.
During all of this music, there will be over 165 exhibits of arts and craft, lots of food, and a children’s activity area from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a nominal fee.
Sunday, July 11 will begin with another pancake breakfast, with the Boy Scout Troop 305 Color Guard to shortly follow. At 11 a.m. the Community Service Speaker will start things off, with Spiritwood Music providing the music.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jane's Travelling Turtles will be holding turtle races. Registration starts a half hour before race starts.
At 12:30 Tuey, a blend of juggling stunts and humor, will perform. After Tuey has made everyone laugh, the Marshall Star Band will begin a 1:45 p.m. This western-Wisconsin based country music band has toured nationally for many years at many different venues and events.
The Underwood and Dalton Lions will operate a visitor parking lot, comprising 80 acres. Shuttle service is provided to the festival grounds. Handicapped parking is available on the grounds of the festival. Both parking and shuttle services are free.
