Donate wood to United Way

Before you know it, cold weather will be here. For many, heating their home is taken for granted; while other community members ask the question, “How am I going to afford to heat my home this season?”

Before you know it, cold weather will be here. For many, heating their home is taken for granted; while other community members ask the question, “How am I going to afford to heat my home this season?”

To help with some of the heating needs, United Way’s Community Impact Coalition assists individuals who use wood as a heat source.

In 2009, more than 35 full cords of wood were donated, yet West Central Minnesota Community Action’s Energy Assistance Program reported 103 clients in Douglas County that used wood for heat.

The coalition is asking individuals and families with extra firewood to think about donating it to the United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties. Now is the time, as many people have wood available in groves or woods that would be more accessible in the summer.

If you have extra wood to donate or if you are in need of wood for the winter, contact the United Way at (320) 763-4840. This is just one way to “Live United” and make a significant impact, noted United Way leaders.

This information is provided through the efforts of the Community Impact Coalition. If you would like to know more about the work being done locally by the United Way Community Impact Coalition, contact Jessica Boyer, United Way Community Impact director, at (320) 763-4840 or visit www.uwdp.org.
