Baseball: Miltona now third in Resorters East standings
The Miltona Tigers moved into sole possession of third place in the Resorters East Division with another ninth inning win last Saturday.
The Tigers entered the bottom of the ninth tied at six apiece with Long Prairie before getting a little help to pick up the win. Long Prairie walked the first three men to set up a bases loaded, nobody out situation.
After a groundout could not advance the runners, Trey Thompson stepped to the plate with the winning run still on third. The first pitch got away from the Long Prairie catcher and allowed Ryan Peppersack to score the game winner. It was the eighth time this season the Tigers have played in a game that was decided in the ninth inning or later.
That put an end to what was a back and forth contest all day. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Long Prairie added two runs in the fourth. That would prove to be a trend throughout the middle innings as both teams had an answer for almost every rally.
Chris Koep started and went five strong innings for Miltona. He struck out seven before giving way to John Mohror in the sixth. Mohror got the win in four innings of work. He struck out two and allowed two runs.
Tom Steidl led the Tigers’ offense with two hits. Mitch Kluver, Cody Curry, Thompson, Justin Walsh, Jason Arvidson and Peppersack each added one hit.
The Tigers conclude the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, as they travel to Osakis for a make-up game against the Hawks. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
