A rock band joining a Chamber of Commerce?
That’s what members of “Whiplash” are doing.
They recently became members of the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.
Whiplash is Bill Gillies, Jim Lunemann, Dave Parsch, and Dan Perdue.
They formed in 1998 to service the extended lakes area with live music, including contemporary rock, funk and trip hop. (They apologize there’s no country music in their repertoire.)
Perdue is a local boy with a theatrical degree from University of Minnesota Morris; Gillies owns and operates Gillies Sign and Graphics in Sauk Centre; Lunemann is from the East and is an ag specialist for Land O’ Lakes; and Parsch came to Minnesota in the 1970s from South Dakota to play in a band, Argus, and work for CBS as a broadcast engineer.
The Whip (as their many fans call them) are excited to join the Alexandria Chamber.
“We’re stoked at being the first rock band to join a local Chamber in the tri-county area,” said Parsch. “It’s almost mascot like.”
