Fantastic fun planned for the Fourth

The Fourth of July is here and there are many events being planned in and around the county.

The Fourth of July is here and there are many events being planned in and around the county. Here is list of just a few of the many events scheduled:

Alexandria

Star Storm 2010 is scheduled for Sunday, July 4 at 10 p.m. on the front lawn of Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria.

The computer-synchronized fireworks are electronically timed to go off to music, which will play on KX92 Radio.

Admission is free. The public is encouraged to get there early, grab a seat and take part in the fun of the American Game Show Experience with a chance to win tickets to Valleyfair.

The Alexandria Jaycees will have a dunk tank running during the festivities.

Parking at Arrowwood is reserved for the guests staying there, but there is a free shuttle running from the stables, which begins at 7 p.m.

At 8 p.m., there will be a special fly over, with about 20 biplanes, by the American Barnstormers Tour.

Viking Speedway

Colorful fireworks will also explode on Saturday, July 3, at the Viking Speedway immediately following the races.

Big Chip Lake

The 23nd annual boat parade will be held at 2 p.m. on the Fourth of July at Ramsdell Beach.

Lake Carlos Parade

The 31st annual Lake Carlos Fourth of July boat parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Carlos-Darling bridge on Sunday, July 4. Participants are asked to stay in single file during the parade.

Lake Ida Parade

The second annual Fourth of July boat parade will take place on Lake Ida beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 4. Boaters are asked to meet at the south shore of Pilgrims Point.

West Union

The 22nd annual West Union 4th of July parade begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4. It will be led by Grand Marshal Joyce Torvik, who was chosen by the local 4-H club for being a strong community supporter.

A potluck dinner will take place in the West Union park after the parade. The public is invited to take part. Bring a dish to share and your own plates, silverware and beverages.

The West Union Country Kids 4-H Club and the West Union community sponsor the West Union July 4 celebration. To be a part of the parade, call Janet Macey at (320) 352-5450.

Villard

Weekend action in Villard begins Friday, July 2 with a tractor pull at 2 p.m. at the old elementary school. Villard 4th of July events, which will be on Saturday, July 3, include the following:

•2 p.m. – parade down Main Street of Villard. Entries are still being accepted. Call Chuck at (320) 554-2120.

•Fire Department water wars at 3 p.m.

•4:30 to 6:30 p.m. – Pork chop feed at the Villard Methodist Church.

•8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. – Street dance featuring Echo Plane.

Villard will finish off Sunday morning, July 4, with Dad’s Belgian Waffles from 8 a.m. to noon at the Villard Fire Hall.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a boat parade on Lake Amelia.
