The Osakis boys’ and girls’ track and field teams wrapped up another successful season recently by handing out awards to the athletes who helped both teams to its second straight Prairie Conference title this spring.
Jared Wagner took home the top award on the boys’ side. Wagner was named the Silverstreaks’ MVP after a strong season in a number of events. The senior was a consistent scorer in the long jump and the 100 and 200-meter dashes this year. He also ran the final leg of the 4x100-meter relay as he joined Cole Erie, Chris Ludwig and Nikolaj Hagen to set an Osakis record time of 45.83 seconds in the event this year.
Ludwig took home the Silverstreak Award for his overall attitude and effort on the track. Devon Nelson was named the team’s most improved athlete, while Brock Landis and Garret Scheer won the Will to Win and the Rookie of the Year Awards, respectively.
On the girls’ side, it was Becka Sadlemyer taking home the MVP Award. Sadlemyer was a key part of the 4x200 relay team with Taylor Kraemer, Aimee Allen and Hannah Szech that set an Osakis record in the event with a time of 1:46.53. That time earned the relay team a return trip to the state tournament. Sadlemyer also qualified individually in the 200-meter dash.
Katie Didier was honored with the Silverstreak Award at the banquet. Aimee Allen was named the most improved. Erica Nelson earned the Will to Win Award, while Szech was named the rookie of the year.
The boys’ and girls’ teams both put together a strong 2010 season. The Silverstreak girls placed 21st at the state meet. They finished as Park Region Conference runners-up before taking third at subsections and fifth at the section meet.
The boys’ team also finished as runners-up in the Park Region Conference and finished third at the subsection meet. The Silverstreaks then went on to take 10th place at the Section 6A meet.
