VFW baseball: VFW Red tops Alex 16s 3-1

The Alexandria Red VFW baseball team used a strong start from Nick Knoblach and some timely hitting to upend the Alexandria 16s.

Knoblach held the 16s to just four hits in the 3-1 win for Alexandria Red. The lone run he allowed was an unearned run that came in the second inning. Knoblach controlled things from there, retiring the side in order in three of the final five innings. He did not walk anybody and struck out one in the game.

AJ Anderson matched him for most of the game. Anderson threw all seven innings for the 16s, posting zeroes until the fourth when Jeff Swedberg and Knoblach got to him for a couple of runs. Swedberg and Knoblach combined for four hits, two runs and two RBI in the game.

The Red added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Gabe Grimstad came around to score. Knoblach responded with an easy bottom of the frame, getting a groundout and two fly balls to the infield to end the game.
