An elderly Roseau, Minn., woman died in a Saturday afternoon two-car crash near Bemidji that also injured three women, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.
Alice C. Hedlund, 88, was riding in the back of a 2001 Dodge Caravan that was westbound on U.S. Highway 2 west of Bemidji. At about 1 p.m., the driver of the van crossed over the eastbound lane to make a left turn but the vehicle was hit broadside by an east-moving 1999 Chevy Malibu.
Hedlund was not wearing a seatbelt and died of her injuries at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, the patrol said.
The van’s driver, Jeanette A. Hedlund, 60, and another passenger, Diane C. Garasha, 66, were examined at the Bemidji hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both women are from Duluth.
Chelsea F. Graves, 19, of Red Lake, Minn., the driver of the Chevy Malibu, was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital Saturday.
Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.
