Because of changes made in the 2010 Minnesota legislative session, changes will soon take effect for obtaining vital statistics.

The Douglas County Recorder’s Office provided the following information:

Effective July 1, certified copies of birth certificates will increase from $16 to $26 for the first copy.

The second copy of the same birth certificate, ordered at the same time, will increase in price from $9 to $19.

The new state surcharge of $10 will be sent to the commissioner of management and budget for deposit in the state’s general fund.

Marriage license full fee will increase from $110 to $115, effective July 1. The new $5 state surcharge will be forwarded to the state to assist in paying for the “Couples on the Brink” program.

The reduced marriage license fee, with an educator’s statement, will remain the same at $40.

Effective August 1, notary filing fees at the county level will decrease from $100 to $20. The county is no longer responsible for collecting the state’s fee of $80.

The $80 fee will now be included at the time of application for the notary commission and will be paid directly to the state.
