Junior Kelsey Ross keeps adding to her high school legacy as she became the first Osakis girls’ golfer to ever win a state championship.

Ross managed that milestone by outshooting second place Kathryn Kennedy of Providence Academy by five strokes with her two-day total of 159 in the State Class A tournament last Thursday.

Team results

The Osakis girls grabbed a third place team finish in the State Class A golf meet at Pebble Creek in Becker last week.

Ross’ state championship was nearly enough to give her team that finish, and she had plenty of help.

Senior Jackie Bowman finished the meet tied for 25th as she had a two-day total of 190, while junior Katelyn Strelow finished tied for 41st with a 198.

Eighth grader Annalise Savageau finished her first tournament with a tie for 44th as she fired a two-day round of 199, 8th grader Peyton Garcia finished tied for 46th with a 200 and 8th grader Emily Backes was 71st with a 222.

Day one

With Ross leading by five after day one, the Silverstreak girls were in solid position as a team, holding down third place by 11 strokes over Fosston.

Garcia was tied for 18th after the first round as she carded rounds of 50 and 43.

Bowman was tied for 34th with rounds of 51 and 45 for a total 96, while 8Savageau and junior Strelow were tied at 46th with 101s as they both shot 50 on the front nine and 51 on the back. Backes was tied for 52nd with a first day 52-51-103.

Osakis trailed leader Providence Academy by 17 strokes and second place Lewiston-Altura by two strokes as the Silverstreaks carded a team total of 365.
