“Like Mother, Like Daughter,” featuring the artistic works of Sandy Jean O’Brien and her daughter, Jean Marie Boll, will open the summer season at the Bremness Gallery in Glenwood on Saturday, June 26.

A reception from 5 to 7 p.m. to meet the artists is free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Saturday, July 31.

With only a few high school art courses and a sprinkling of painting workshops taught by nationally known artists, O’Brien is basically a self-taught artist. Her appreciation of nature and animals and her love of gardening have strongly influenced her depictions of water lilies, lake sunsets, wildflowers and fishing scenes.

Growing up with a mother who is an active artist, Jean (O’Brien) Boll developed an interest in art at an early age. She continues to develop her art career in Fargo, North Dakota where she and her husband, David, live.

Her main medium is colored pencils and she is expanding into pastel painting with varied subject matter of landscapes, florals and pet portraits.
