The Echo Press and Osakis Review recently hired two summer interns.

Heather Huwe and Marit Aaseng were added to the staff to help with the Echo Press, Osakis Review and the Vacationer, a summer publication of the Echo.

The internship program, available to high school students, is made possible through matching funds provided by the Carl Pohlad Foundation.

As interns, Huwe and Aaseng will be responsible for writing stories and taking photographs for all three publications.

Huwe is a 2010 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria and will graduate in 2011 from Alexandria Technical College with a degree in finance and credit management.

She previously worked with Dr. Bill Kraker at the Animal Doctor as a veterinarian’s assistant.

Born and raised in Alexandria, Huwe is the only child of Kevin and Lisa Huwe.

She enjoys raising and showing Suffolk sheep for 4-H, riding horses and living on a hobby farm.

Aaseng is also a 2010 graduate of Jefferson High School. She will be attending St. Olaf College in Northfield this fall.

She is employed part-time as a lifeguard for Lakes Area Recreation in Alexandria.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Aaseng and her family moved to Alexandria in 2002. Her family includes her parents, Grant and Ruth Aaseng, and her brother, Kristopher.

Her hobbies include music (the viola and piano), swimming, traveling, reading and drawing.
