On Wednesday, DFL-endorsed candidate for governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher kicked off part one of a rural economies tour in Alexandria – the 17th fastest growing “micropolitan area” in the country.

Kelliher discussed economic development strategies in Alexandria along with Jason Murray, executive director of the Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission (AAEDC) at the organization’s headquarters

Kelliher said Alexandria is a vivid demonstration that Minnesota is still a place where success is within reach of a good idea and a hard days work.

Over the last year alone, Alexandria has seen the expansion of the 3M facility, Douglas Machine’s plant, the construction of a new warehouse and the construction of a new assisted living facility.

“That important progress has brought good jobs to the region,” Kelliher said.

“We need to revitalize farming communities and get small towns back to work,” Kelliher said. “New, innovative strategic business development happening right here in Alexandria is an inspiring example of how Minnesota can do just that.”

Other stops on Kelliher’s rural economies tour include Morris, Moorhead, Staples and Little Falls.
