Search for mussels comes up empty

On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Douglas County Dive Team went in search of zebra mussels on Lake Victoria.

On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Douglas County Dive Team went in search of zebra mussels on Lake Victoria.

They were accompanied by two members of the Department of Natural Resources Invasive Species Program, who walked along the shoreline.

The divers and DNR spent at least two hours on Lake Victoria, mostly on the north end near the Lake Victoria / Lake Geneva channel. They also spent some time on Lake Darling.

No zebra mussels were found on either lake, which means the channel restrictions will stay in place. The restrictions were recently put in place between Lakes Geneva and Victoria and Lakes Darling and Brophy.

The lakes will continue to be monitored.
