Section 6A baseball: Roers' grand slam leads Chargers past Hillcrest; Knights topple Arrows

Brandon-Evansville’s Joe Roers ripped a grand slam in the sixth to highlight a nine-run breakout for the Chargers as they cruised over Fergus Falls Hillcrest 14-3 Tuesday in Section 6A-South baseball playoffs.

Roers completed his night with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, scoring three runs and driving home five more.

Teddy Wood, who went 2-for-4 at the plate, picked up the pitching win as he struck out two and scattered eight hits.

The Chargers were to have played Wheaton/Herman-Norcross yesterday, Thursday, in the semifinals, while Parkers Prairie faced Chokio-Alberta.

West Central Area 11, Ashby 8

The West Central Area baseball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the second and held on for an 11-8 win over Ashby in the opening round of the subsection playoffs on Tuesday.

Ashby led briefly at 1-0 in the second. The Knights then came to bat and did not quit until they had built a seven-run lead. They built that lead to 11-3 going into the top of the seventh.

The Arrows did not quit. They scored fives times to make things interesting but came up just short.

Jordan Lillemon went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI in his last game as an Ashby player. Patrick Rohloff had three hits, two RBI and two run, while Allard Larue added two hits and two RBI.

The Arrows ended the season 0-18 and will say goodbye to five seniors later this spring.

“Seniors Brett Bowman, Patrick Rohloff, Jordan Lillemon, Drew Hanson and Justice Witt will really be missed,” head coach Ryan Bartosiewski said.
