Minnesota State Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria), a member of the Senate Subcommittee on Ethical Conduct, released the following statement after the subcommittee met to address Senator
Satveer Chaudhary’s ethical conduct and conflict of interest:
“The public deserves open and honest action by the people they elect to represent them. Without question, Senator Chaudhary betrayed the public’s trust and conduct like this is why the
Legislature’s approval ratings are so low. All legislators should be held to the highest standards whether we are in session or not. In the coming weeks, I will be looking at ways to strengthen the subcommittee on ethical conduct’s ability to act on a year-round basis.”
The Senate ethics panel voted to publicly reprimand Chaudhary on Wednesday.
Chaudhary came under fire for trying to obtain special fishing regulations for Fish Lake Reservoir in northeastern Minnesota, where he owns a lake cabin. Chaudhary said he made the request because he thought an overwhelming majority of lake residents wanted it. He has since apologized and said his request was based on incorrect information.
