The driver of an all-terrain vehicle was taken to a Staples hospital and later airlifted to the St. Cloud trauma center after an ATV accident early Sunday morning.

Jay Braith, 34, of Minneapolis, was injured while operating a three-wheeler near Wahoo Valley in northeast Wadena County, according to the Wadena County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident happened just after midnight. Braith was unconscious when the sheriff’s office and Staples ambulance arrived. The Verndale Police Department also responded.

The sheriff’s office said it believes alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the accident. Braith was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
