Girls' golf: Minnewaska grabs another WCCS title

Minnewaska captured another West Central South Conference girls’ golf championship last Tuesday as they swept through the schedule with a perfect record of wins.

The Laker girls won their home meet on Tuesday by 43 strokes over BOLD as Sarah Roering, Allie Ostrander and Brianna Janu shared medalist honors as they all finished with 39s.

Sam Falk was one stroke back at 40 for fourth place.

That win gave Minnewaska 81 points in the final WCCS standings, while BOLD and Benson finished second at 66.

The Lakers took the top four spots on the WCCS All-conference team and had five of the top six as Sarah Roering was the conference medalist, Allie Ostrander was second, Brianna Janu third, Sam Falk fourth and Alexis Guggisberg sixth.

At Minnewaska

The Minnewaska girls claimed their second golf meet title in as many days Thursday, winning the 16-team St. Cloud Invitational Thursday after wrapping up a perfect West Central South Conference season Wednesday at home.

On Wednesday, the Lakers were the hosts of the final WCCS meet and claimed their fifth consecutive conference title as they cruised to yet another perfect league record, crushing second place BOLD and Benson-KMS by 43 points as three Minnewaska players shared medalist honors.

Seniors Sarah Roering and Allie Ostrander, along with sophomore Brianna Janu, all finished with rounds of 39 to lead the way, while junior Sam Falk finished with a 40 to place fourth.

The Lakers ended the season with a 15-point margin of victory in the WCCS final standings.

St. Cloud

The No. 1 ranked Minnewaska girls weren’t intimidated as they competed in the 16-team invitational in St. Cloud Thursday, finishing first by 33 strokes over ninth ranked Alexandria.

Roering earned medalist honors with a one-stroke victory over Alexandria’s Maggie Leland.

Minnewaska put four girls in the top 10 of the meet as Falk finished third at 77, Janu fourth at 80 and Ostrander was sixth at 83.
