Andrew Gass and Alyssa Welle, students at Discovery Middle School (DMS) in Alexandria, were rewarded for not missing a single day of school this year. Both will represent DMS at a Twins baseball game on Saturday, May 29.
Gass, an 8th grader, was chosen for the honor from a small number of students with perfect attendance this year. He will be on the field for a pregame ceremony with Ron Gardenhire, and he will also sing to attendees at Target Field during the 7th inning stretch with other middle school students from Minnesota.
Welle, a 7th grader at DMS who also had perfect attendance, also won tickets to attend and will be singing during the 7th inning stretch.
All this is possible because of the partnership between the Minnesota Middle School Association (MMSA) and the Twins. Sue Thelen, health and physical education teacher at DMS, and Sarah Reif, DMS 7th grade dean of students, currently serve on the MMSA board of middle level educators.
