Letter - Support for HIV services

On behalf of the Rural AIDS Action Network (RAAN), we would like to thank Jason Mergen, Kellie Moore, Linda Martin and all of the people that volunteered and helped organize the Sweating for a Reason, 24-hour indoor cycle-a-thon fundraiser for HIV/AIDS and RAAN that took place on April 24-25 at Savvy Fit.

To the editor:

On behalf of the Rural AIDS Action Network (RAAN), we would like to thank Jason Mergen, Kellie Moore, Linda Martin and all of the people that volunteered and helped organize the Sweating for a Reason, 24-hour indoor cycle-a-thon fundraiser for HIV/AIDS and RAAN that took place on April 24-25 at Savvy Fit. The $2,126.60 raised by this great event will help support essential services for people living with HIV in rural Minnesota.

The number of new HIV infections continues to rise, which made Sweating for a Reason especially timely in helping to bring more awareness to this disease that affects more than 6,500 people in the state. It is very important to have the support of community members and area businesses in the effort to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

We encourage people to thank Jason for caring about this important public health issue and the Alexandria community.

Charles Hempeck, RAAN executive director, Little Falls, MN

Diane Hermes, medical case manager, Alexandria, MN
