Baseball: Cards rally for 7-3 win over Fergus Falls

Parker Giroux's three-run homer highlighted the victory

Senior night was a huge success for the Cardinal baseball team as they rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to Fergus Falls for a 7-3 victory over the Otters.

Fergus jumped on the board first as Otter Alex Hensch slapped an RBI double in the top of the third, but the Cards came back with two runs in the bottom of that frame behind a sacrifice fly by Colin Erickson and a big two-out hit by Tyler Iverson.

The bottom of the fourth proved to be the back breaker as Alexandria tallied four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Parker Giroux.

“Chris Curry, who is filling in for an injured Dalton Leuschke, started the inning with a double,” said head coach Russ Hinrichs. “Shawn Krueger singled home Curry and advanced to second on a Lucas Betterman bunt.

“Then, with two outs, Chris Vogeler walked and Parker Giroux followed with a three-run home run to center to make it 6-1.”

Jordan Hirsch picked up the win as he allowed just two hits and one earned run over five and a third innings.

Eric Carlsen pitched the final one and two-thirds innings in relief.

Alexandria honored six seniors after the game – Betterman, Krueger, Iverson, Ross Thompson, Mark Whiting and Erickson.

Alexandria is now 8-8 on the season and 5-5 in Central Lakes Conference play.

They host Rocori today, Friday, in a doubleheader to close out the home portion of the schedule.
