Here’s a way to own a piece of local history and help a good cause at the same time.
The Douglas County Friends of the Library is holding a silent auction featuring items from the old Carnegie Library building, including bookshelves, Depression-era glass, chairs and chandeliers.
The bidding will start at the Friends of the Library’s annual meeting at the Douglas County Library at 7 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 5.
Bids can be made during regular library hours through May 15. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Library to help improve the current library in the Douglas County Services Center, 720 Fillmore Street, Alexandria.
