Douglas, Stevens, Grant and Todd County DFL (Democrat) delegates gathered at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria on Thursday, April 8 for their endorsing convention.
The key agenda item was to endorse a DFL candidate for Minnesota State Senate in Senate District 11. Jim Thoreen became the endorsed candidate after being nominated by Troy Goodnough from Stevens County, and seconded by Lil Ortendahl of Todd County.
Thoreen then addressed the crowd and shared some of his key positions. Following his talk, Jim Thoreen was endorsed by unanimous consent.
Thoreen and his wife, Bonnie, have three sons, and one granddaughter. He is retiring from his position as county coordinator in Stevens County this spring.
Thoreen describes himself as a centrist who is willing to lead from the middle in order to help the local communities and the state of Minnesota thrive in the coming years.
Thoreen brings a life of public service experience as a volunteer fireman, as county government leadership in four Minnesota counties, and as a volunteer in various community organizations.
The convention also elected its officers for the next two years: Adrian Ledermann, chair from Douglas County; Leann Dean, associate chair from Stevens County; Lil Ortendahl, treasurer from Todd County; and Andrew Showalter, affirmative action officer from Stevens County.
