The Kensington Area Heritage Society will present a research and discussion forum next Saturday, April 24.
The event will take place in the back room of the Kensington Community Center. There will be a morning session starting at 10 a.m.; a noon break for lunch at the Kensington Café; and an afternoon session at 1 p.m.
This event, which was formerly hosted by Arne and Leland Pederson, is designed to build upon their tradition of discussing and sharing research pertinent to a better understanding of medieval North America suggested by the 1362 runic inscription on the Kensington Runestone.
The topics during the research and discussion forum are as follows:
•Preservation of the Kensington Runestone discovery site.
•Additions to the Heritage Society’s archives.
•Recent interest by academia in the Kensington Runestone.
•Advances in stone hole research, including new finds and possible dating techniques.
•Report on advances made by Richard Nielsen.
Guests are invited to come early and stay late. The Lions Club and Our Lade of the Runestone Catholic Church will be sponsoring a benefit pancake breakfast in the Community Center dining room from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The museum will be open following the research forum.
