It is spring and time for stretching your brain and getting up-to-date on new and exciting information just for seniors.

All sessions are free and open to the public. All sessions will be held at the Public Works meeting room at 526 Willow Drive in Alexandria from 2 to 4 p.m. Come and join us!

Monday, April 19 – Topic: Minnesota Long Term Care Partnership. Find out how the partnership can help you decide on a Long Term Care insurance policy and how it will help you protect your assets. No sales pitch; only good, unbiased information.

Monday, April 26 – Topic: The new YMCA. Kara Elwood will join us to talk about what will be offered at the YMCA for seniors. Whether it’s swimming or walking or a cardio workout that you are looking for, the YMCA will have something for everyone. We will tour the new facility after our informational session.

Monday, May 3 – Topic: Advance Directives – do you have one on file? We will answer questions on the decisions you need to make. You can also fill one out and take it with you. Do you have questions on whom to ask? What are your wishes? Where do you start? Make your wishes known so your family knows exactly that you want.

Also, Power of Attorney for Finances. What do you ask? What can they do? When do you need one? Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota will be there to answer your questions.

Monday, May 10 – Topic: Medication Management. Are you on more than one prescription? Do you have prescriptions from more than one doctor? Have you added new medications, but still have several old ones? Do you take over-the-counter medications, herbals or vitamins? Can you take these all at the same time? Should you take them with food or on an empty stomach? Pack up all your medications in a brown paper bag and come on over.

Find the answers to all your questions at an individual, private session with a pharmacist. You will need to call to schedule an appointment for this session.

For information on any of these classes or to schedule an appointment for the May 10 sessions, contact Mary at (320) 762-3047 or Deb at (320) 762-2974.

If you are caring for a loved one, whether it is your spouse, parent or neighbor, join us at the Caregiver Support Group. You do not have to go it alone. We meet the second Tuesday (April 13) from 2 to 4 p.m. and/or the fourth Monday (April 26) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Call Mary at (320) 762-3047 for more information.
