One of the open house events hosted by Douglas County for County Government Month has been cancelled.
Because of construction at Douglas County Hospital and because of parking and safety issues, the open house slated for Friday, April 16 at the hospital has been cancelled.
The open houses are being held in honor of the National Association of Counties (NACo) 75th anniversary.
The other open houses are still planned as scheduled:
•Friday, April 9 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management, 2115 Jefferson Street.
•Friday, April 23 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Douglas County Courthouse, 305 8th Avenue West.
•Friday, April 30 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the new Douglas County Jail location, 509 3rd Avenue West.
Snacks and refreshments will be served at each location. In addition, there will be at least one Douglas County commissioner on hand at each site to visit with the public.
What is NACo?
NACo is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States.
Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation’s 3,068 counties.
It also advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government; improves the public’s understanding of county government; assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research; and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.
Its membership totals more than 2,000 counties, which represents more than 80 percent of the nation’s population.
Douglas County is a member of NACo.
