Austin McCoy and Sarah Peper wrapped up their senior seasons by being named the MVP of the boys’ and girls’ Alexandria Nordic ski teams last month.
McCoy and Peper both represented Alexandria at the state meet in Biwabik in February. Peper finished 98th at Giants Ridge, while McCoy came in 100th against the best skiers in the state.
Joining both these seniors as award winners is a group of young athletes who provide a lot of promise for the future. Freshman Jimmy Lovrien was named the team’s most improved skier on the boys’ team. Senior Matthew Burow was honored with the Rookie of the Year Award. Burow was in his first year of skiing this year after coming over from the Cardinal hockey team.
On the girls’ side of things, 8th grader Lauren Hagstrom earned the Most Improved Award. Julia Sieling took home the Rookie of the Year Award. Both skiers were part of a group of 12 skiers on the Alexandria roster who were either freshmen or younger this year. That should bode well for the future of the girls’ program going forward.
Cody Call and Megan Bristow were also honored with the Junior High Award.
