A former principal at Alexandria’s Jefferson High School (JHS) is in the running to take over the superintendent job in Sartell-St. Stephen.

Joe Hill is the leading candidate for the position, according to a story printed in the St. Cloud Times today, March 19.

Hill, 41, served as JHS principal from 2002 to 2007. Before that, he was the assistant principal of Discovery Middle School from 1999-2002.

Hill, who grew up in Alexandria and graduated from JHS, also taught school in Willmar.

He left the Alexandria job in July 2007 to become assistant superintendent in Duluth.

School board members in Sartell-St. Stephen plan to visit the Duluth school district on Monday to meet again with Hill, who was one of three final candidates the board interviewed.

The Sartell-St. Stephen district has more than 3,400 students and is the fastest-growing school system in the St. Cloud region.

Dale Gasser, the current superintendent, is retiring after serving the district for five years.
