The Osakis Area Heritage Center will celebrate spring with a slide show and talk by Little Sauk gardener Ron Wienhold. His “River Glen Gardens through the Seasons” will be presented Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the downtown Osakis Information Center, 11 East Main Street.

Admission is free and everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.

The show is the last of three programs of Winter Lecture Series 2010, an annual project of the Osakis Area Heritage Center. This winter’s lectures are sponsored by grants from Runestone Electric Association and Stearns Electric Association.

Wienhold has been designing, planting and improving his 75-acre River Glen Gardens for more than 50 years. The area’s winding Sauk River and rolling hills contain an abundance of wild flowers and trees, plus special Japanese, alpine, cacti, hosta and water gardens.

River Glen Gardens is also a sanctuary for the many kinds of birds that visit all through the year. Some are tame, such as the nuthatches that eat out of Wienhold’s hand.

Now 75, the lifelong gardener and Minnesota native appreciates the beauty of each season. He looks forward to spring for its sense of renewal.

Wienhold’s Sunday afternoon slide show and talk will follow the seasons, beginning with scenes of winter, moving on to spring, summer, fall, and back to winter.
