A familiar building along Highway 29 south of Alexandria is no more.

The building, which was once the home of First State Bank of Carlos and most recently, Counselor Realty’s south office, was demolished Friday.

It will be replaced by an 8,200-square-foot retail building, according to Alexandria City Planner Mike Weber.

Although the city has not yet received a signed permit request that will indicate what type of business is going in on the site, the newspaper has learned that Verizon Wireless plans to use it as another retail location.

The site is located across from D. Michael B’s and the Viking Plaza.
